Emils grew up as a hyperactive, multitasking mogul in the UK and, as a teen, moved back to his home city, Riga. He is a member of the Latvian Guild of Cinematographers and one of Latvia’s leading commercial and narrative cinematographers and a rising talent in Europe.

His Director of Photography debut feature film, Slapes (Thirst, 2024), showcases complex handheld camera movement and resonant imagery. With multiple awards and nominations at A-list festivals for short film cinematography, Emils has established himself as a trustworthy partner to directors, working across the US, UK, and Mexico on a diverse array of narrative and commercial projects.

When not on set, he splits his time between family in Riga and hiking adventures in the Alps. His trusty Volkswagen T6 film-gear van serves as a rugged workhorse for winter shoots and transforms into a capable campervan for European road trips.
